AMANDA + TYLER — an Outdoor Wedding at Starlit Point in Winnipeg
Amanda and Tyler’s wedding at Starlit Point was nothing short of magical. Set beside the Red River on a perfect summer day, their celebration was filled with emotion, laughter, and the kind of love that runs deep through generations. Delayed by the pandemic and marked by the memory of two beloved parents they had lost, this wedding was a powerful tribute to resilience, connection, and family.
Amanda’s close-knit family was deeply involved in every moment of the day. The joy on her face as she stepped into her wedding dress said it all — the day was finally here, and it was real. Her first look with her father was deeply emotional, but what really pulled at the heartstrings was seeing her grandparents tear up when they saw her in her gown. The love surrounding Amanda was unmistakable — and it carried through every part of the day.
The outdoor ceremony at Starlit Point was held in the afternoon, giving us stunning light and lots of time for portraits afterward. Amanda and Tyler chose to incorporate the memory of Amanda’s late mother and Tyler’s late father throughout their ceremony in meaningful ways.
As Tyler walked down the aisle, he carried his father’s ashes in his hands, accompanied by his mother. Amanda’s mother’s chair held a framed photo — a quiet yet powerful presence. The ceremony was officiated by a close family friend, making it feel personal and warm.
Despite the heavy emotion, Tyler brought balance with his hilarious vows, which included a list of light-hearted “marriage conditions” like watching football with friends once a week. The mix of tears and laughter was a perfect reflection of who they are as a couple.
After the “I do’s,” we explored the venue for portraits — and the weather couldn’t have been more ideal. The sky gifted us with soft, dramatic clouds and then opened up with golden light just in time for sunset. These portraits by the river at Starlit Point were absolutely breathtaking.
During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed lawn games like corn hole, Jenga, and kubb, while sipping drinks and watching the sunset over the water. It was relaxed, fun, and full of joy.
Later that evening, Amanda and her father shared their first dance — a moment filled with love and grace. But what made it even more powerful was Amanda’s surprise: a video of her parents dancing at their own wedding. Her father’s reaction said everything. It was a beautiful moment of remembrance, healing, and connection.
Before heading back into the reception tent, Amanda and Tyler stepped out briefly for one final nighttime photo — a quick setup that took just minutes but resulted in one of the most cinematic images of the day.
Amanda and Tyler’s Starlit Point wedding was so much more than a beautiful outdoor celebration. It was a testament to love that transcends time and loss — a reminder that joy and grief can exist side by side. Their day was filled with meaning, beauty, and the kind of honest moments that are a gift to capture.
The wedding took place at the Sikh Society of Manitoba, a serene venue for a meaningful Sikh ceremony. Gina was resplendent in her traditional red bridal attire, while Puneet exuded elegance in his sherwani. Their Anand Karaj ceremony, centered around the sacred Lavan, was deeply spiritual and emotional. As they completed the ceremonial circles around the Guru Granth Sahib, their vows echoed with love and intention.
Following the ceremony, guests gathered for Langar, the traditional communal meal that reflects the values of equality and unity. Then we stepped out for couples portraits at the Manitoba Legislature Building, where we captured some truly striking images under soft natural light.
Back at Gina’s family home, a playful tradition awaited: Puneet had to make a roti and shoot a tiny basketball into a kids’ hoop to gain entry — a lighthearted moment shared by all. Once inside, the newlyweds enjoyed tea and sweets with family before an emotional vidai (farewell). Gina’s heartfelt goodbye with her mother was one of the most moving parts of the day — a reminder of the deep love and bond between mother and daughter.
The next day, the celebration continued with a lavish reception at the Fort Garry Hotel. With its historic charm and grand ballroom, the venue offered a perfect backdrop for the couple’s evening celebration. Guests were welcomed with warmth, treated to a gourmet feast, and moved by heartfelt speeches from family and friends.
Gina and Puneet shared their first dance surrounded by love and applause, marking the beginning of their new journey together. The night ended with high-energy dancing and celebration — a perfect finale to a magical wedding.
This Sikh Society Indian wedding was filled with heart, heritage, and unforgettable moments. From the Mehndi to the Fort Garry reception, every part of Gina and Puneet’s celebration honored their roots and their love. I’m truly grateful they chose me to document their story.
