Crazy Beautiful Brandon Wedding
A Two-Day Brandon Wedding Celebration for Khurram + Sana
Some weddings stick with you not just because of the celebration itself, but because of the incredible people at the heart of it. That was absolutely the case with Khurram and Sana—two brilliant souls who met during medical school in New York and decided to celebrate their love with a beautiful, two-day Brandon wedding.
The couple now lives in South Carolina, but Sana’s roots are in Brandon, Manitoba, and it was important to her to celebrate this milestone surrounded by her hometown community. Their wedding festivities took place in Brandon, while the Walima (reception) was held later in Greenville, South Carolina. I was lucky enough to photograph the Brandon portion of their wedding—and I have to say, it was a joyful, vibrant celebration I won’t soon forget.
This was my first time photographing a Brandon wedding, and also my first visit back to the city in several years. I’ve always known it as Winnipeg’s “sister city,” but I was honestly surprised by how much it’s grown. There are some truly picturesque spots in and around Brandon—charming parks, wide-open prairie skies, and lovely architecture. It was the perfect backdrop for a wedding that was both deeply personal and incredibly fun.
A Festive Mehndi Night Full of Colour and Laughter
The first day of this Brandon wedding was dedicated to the Mehndi, or Henna Night—one of the most colourful and joyful parts of many South Asian weddings. The evening featured a series of fun and energetic performances by friends and family, which had the entire crowd clapping and dancing along. One of the standout moments from the evening was a surprise improv comedy act, which had everyone in stitches. It was a creative and unexpected twist that really captured the couple’s fun-loving spirit.
Later, guests were treated to a slideshow filled with funny and heartfelt messages from friends and family who couldn’t be there in person. The laughter echoed throughout the venue and gave everyone that warm, nostalgic feeling you get when you’re surrounded by people who love you.
The venue for this portion of the celebration was Canad Inns Keystone, which offered the perfect space to bring this cultural celebration to life—big enough to host the vibrant festivities while still feeling intimate and welcoming.
Day Two: Sentimental Speeches and Sparkling Send-Offs
The second day was just as special, with a slightly more formal tone as Khurram and Sana held their ring ceremony. This day also featured more emotional and heartfelt moments. From the thoughtful speeches by loved ones to the couple’s first dance, the atmosphere was filled with love, pride, and connection. One of the most powerful moments came when Khurram gave a heartfelt speech about his love for Sana. There were definitely tears in the room—mine included.
As the night came to a close, the couple was sent off in style—with glow lights and confetti filling the air, and all of their guests cheering them on. It was a magical, high-energy ending to two unforgettable days.
A Brandon Wedding to Remember
While there were so many exciting and beautiful moments throughout the weekend, what struck me most was the quiet connection Khurram and Sana shared. The way they looked at each other, supported each other, and laughed together was effortless and genuine. It’s those little in-between moments—the glances, the hand squeezes, the shared smiles—that I love capturing most.
This Brandon wedding reminded me that love stories are universal, even when they begin in New York and stretch across the continent. It was truly a pleasure to document this chapter of Khurram and Sana’s journey, and I can’t wait to photograph more weddings in Brandon in the future.
