Banff Engagement Shoot – Shaminder & Jasmin

A Mountain Adventure Full of Love, Laughter, and Beautiful Views

Back in March, I had the amazing opportunity to photograph not just one Banff engagement shoot but three — and each one had its own unique energy, style, and story. There’s something incredibly refreshing about stepping away from the flat prairies and into the dramatic beauty of the Rockies. The mountains, snow, lakes, and forests provide such a cinematic canvas for storytelling — especially when the couple is as connected as Shaminder and Jasmin.

This particular session felt like something out of a Bollywood film… but better — because it was real.

Shaminder and Jasmin were all in from the start. They drove in from Edmonton early in the morning, made a stop in Calgary for makeup, and met me for their engagement pictures in Banff around noon — ready to go. By that point, I had already scouted the area and hiked most of the key spots in the days leading up to the shoot. I knew exactly where the best lighting would be, where the snow was still clean and untouched, and how to avoid the midday glare off the mountains.

They were in good hands — and all they had to do was follow my lead.

Why Engagement Pictures In Banff Are Special

If you’re thinking about an engagement shoot in Banff, I can’t recommend it enough. When I first reached out to my clients about the idea, every single one of them jumped at the opportunity. Not only were they excited to escape Winnipeg for a weekend, but they also loved the thought of having truly unique, cinematic photos to display in their homes.

These aren’t just engagement photos — they’re heirlooms.

And here’s the thing — March in Banff isn’t considered peak season. It’s chilly. Sometimes grey. But you know what else it is? Peaceful. Empty. Intimate. We had most of the locations to ourselves, which meant no crowds, no awkward stares, and no waiting around for tourists to move. We could take our time, enjoy the space, and focus completely on creating beautiful, meaningful portraits.

By contrast, during the long weekend, I saw 50 to 70 people at every major photo spot. So if you’re planning your Banff engagement shoot, consider going mid-week or during the off-season for a more private, stress-free experience.
