4 Tips For Hiring Your Florist

By Floral Fixx

This week’s guest blogger is Brandi Eloquence from Floral Fixx. She has 4 tips for hiring your florist so you can get your dream wedding. Because I’m sure that none of us have ever spent over $100 on flowers before and could use some help, right? Alright, let’s dive in.

The first tip on hiring your florist is.

1. Book early & decide later

If you’re not ready to make your floral decisions, but know you want to work with a particular florist based on their portfolio and reputation, you should be able to leave a deposit to reserve your day before your consultation.  That way you aren’t competing with other couples for vendors, as they do get booked up.  You can also then take your time to decide on your look before you meet with your florist.  Generally, we recommend booking your initial meeting or reserving your day about 12-18 months before your event, especially for popular dates.

2. No need to study in advance

You don’t have to be a flower expert to book your consultation.  A quality florist will make design suggestions and help you figure out which flowers and colors work within your palette, style, and budget.  Just so long as you have a general idea of the direction you’re going we can take it from there.  You should be allowed to make tweaks and changes along the way to your initial proposal to get it just right.

3. Know what you want to spend and be flexible

In the right hands, beautiful flowers can happen within a wide range of budgets.  If you’re open and honest about your budget in the early stages, you’ll prevent sticker shock later.  A good florist should be able to design within a given price range by adjusting the flower types or scale of the pieces to make the most out of your budget.  Please remember that there is only so much that can be done within reason; florists are not magicians.  So 1 of your 4 tips on hiring your florist is to be flexible and open. You’ll end up with a beautiful end product that suits your financial plan.

4. What else can your florist do for you?

Your 4th tip on hiring your florist is that you may be surprised by the little extras some flower shops offer as rentals.  You can customize your wedding flowers with ceremony and reception items such as archways, draping, vases, votives, chargers, chairs, etc. A lot of the look of your wedding can come from your florist, so if that’s a priority then find a florist that can do it all. You’ll save yourself some stress by dealing with fewer vendors and having a better idea of what the finished product will look like.  Most florists have preferred vendors they can recommend to you if they don’t carry what you’re looking for or if you having trouble planning your event.
